Porsche Completes the 911 Carrera Lineup with the 992.2 Carrera S
With the introduction of the base Carrera and the sporty Carrera GTS, Porsche has now completed the 992.2 Carrera model range by adding the highly sought-after Carrera S. Traditionally, the Carrera S serves as the performance sweet spot in the 911 hierarchy, offering enhanced power and luxury. This year, Porsche has elevated the Carrera S to new heights, making it a pivotal addition that enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting.

More Muscle Under the Hood
The 992.2 Carrera S is powered by a reworked 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, similar to the one found in the 992.1 Carrera S, but now delivering a significant boost in performance. Producing 473 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque, the Carrera S accelerates from 0–60 mph in an impressive 3.1 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package. This power upgrade not only enhances acceleration but also increases the top track speed to 191 mph, surpassing the previous Carrera S model and solidifying its position as a powerhouse in the 911 lineup.
Refined Sophistication Meets Sporty Elegance
The 992.2 Carrera S retains Porsche’s timeless design language while incorporating subtle refinements that enhance its aesthetic appeal. Available in both Coupe and Cabriolet forms, the Carrera S features Matrix Design LED headlights, a Sport Exhaust system with silver tailpipes, and staggered 20/21-inch Carrera S wheels. These elements not only improve the car’s visual appeal but also contribute to its aerodynamic efficiency.
Inside, the Carrera S offers a luxurious and sophisticated cabin. Enhanced with extended leather upholstery covering seats, headrests, and upper panels, the interior exudes premium quality. Optional Exclusive Manufaktur Leather Interiors provide up to 48 two-tone combinations, allowing for personalized customization. Standard features include a 12.3-inch instrument display, a 12.3-inch navigation screen, and a 5.3-inch climate control interface, all integrated into Porsche’s advanced infotainment system.
Currently Rear-Wheel Drive Only
Unlike previous generations where the Carrera lineup included both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants, the 992.2 Carrera S is currently available only with a rear-wheel drive configuration. AWD options are fr now reserved for the GTS models, but we expect to see all-wheel drive version of both the Carrera and the Carrera S to launch in the future.
No Manual Transmission offered
For those who cherish the engagement of a manual gearbox, the Carrera T remains the sole manual option within the 992.2 Carrera lineup. The Carrera S, can only be equipped with an eight-speed Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK) that offers seamless and rapid gear changes, optimizing both performance and efficiency. Enthusiasts interested in the manual experience can explore the detailed features of the Carrera T in our dedicated Carrera T article.
Pricing
The 992.2 Carrera S is priced at $146,400 for the Coupe and $159,600 for the Cabriolet. Positioned between the base Carrera and the performance-oriented GTS, the Carrera S offers significant added value with its enhanced powertrain and premium features.
The Carrera range - finally complete
With the launch of the 992.2 Carrera S, Porsche completes the 911 Carrera range, providing enthusiasts with a model that perfectly balances power, luxury, and driving pleasure. The Carrera S not only enhances the performance hierarchy of the 911 lineup but also reinforces Porsche’s commitment to delivering exceptional sports cars that cater to both purists and those seeking a more refined driving experience.
